Against a stout Goodhue team, the Cannon Falls girls' basketball team were no match, losing the first game of the year, 78-33.

First year coach Steven Strauss said many of the Wildcat players from last year's team returned, so the Bombers anticipated a tough matchup.

Strauss said the press was too much for the Bombers to handle, going down early in the first half, 50-28.

"In a weird year, for the first game with a new head coach, I was very happy with the girls’ effort," Strauss said. "They played hard, hustled, and did everything I asked of them."

Belle Freeberg led the Bombers in scoring with 16 points. Jaci Winchell had four points and six rebounds. Taylor Johnson had seven rebounds.
