This is a product shot of aluminum soda cans that are being stored for recycling in a recycling bin. All of the cans are open and empty, and many are partially crushed. Improper recycling can cause items that should be recycled to end up in the trash.

Fourth-grade students are encouraged to enter the Dakota County Poster Contest to celebrate America Recycles Day.

This year’s contest theme is: “Recycle Right”.

In addition, students in fifth through 12th grade are invited to enter the County’s first video contest with a theme of “No Plastic Bags in Recycling”.

All poster and video submissions must be emailed to no later than Tuesday, Nov. 30 and adhere to the contest rules.

Winning posters will be professionally printed and displayed at Dakota County Western Service Center in Apple Valley.

Winning posters and videos will be published on the Dakota County webpage and social media.

America Recycles Day by Keep America Beautiful is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

Held on Nov. 15, America Recycles Day educates and encourages individuals on how to be more mindful of what they consume, where and how to properly recycle and to pledge to recycle more and recycle right in their everyday lives.
