I’m sure most have heard about the new apartments going where the Cannonball used to be. ALL the folks I have talked to think it’s a poor location for them.
Some wonder where the kids will play? Others wonder how you will walk to town or ride bicycle? What about snow removal?
What I really don’t understand is why are they having a Public Hearing to create a tax increment district at that location before they have the required hearing for the Apartments themselves? Heck the land is not even zoned for “residential”, I assume it is all “commercial” (for good reason as it is surrounded by commercial). What does the comprehensive plan dictate?
Seems like they have the cart before the horse or once again have their minds made up before anyone has a chance to voice their opinion. Why have a Public Hearing? To make matters worse, they have the notice in the paper and it clearly states you may examine the TIF plan at the City Administrators office, but when I asked for a copy from the administrator on Thursday it wasn’t there.
It seems our city officials have a REAL problem following their own rules!
Personally, I think it would fit much better on the recently purchased Sandstone Road development since that already is a residential area with plenty of park land and safe places to walk and bike.
Just to let you know, there has been discussion on forgiving hundreds of thousands of dollars away on this venture already so why not put it where it fits in?
