The Goodhue County Sheriff's Department released a list of auto shops in Goodhue County that participate in a program that prevents catalytic converter thefts. 

On July 21, the sheriff's department shared on their Facebook page that a recent traffic stop reinforced the importance of car owners having their catalytic converters marked. 

The post said, "The driver of the vehicle is someone who is known to Law Enforcement and has been connected to thefts in the past. In the front seat a Sawzall was located. Deputies convinced the driver to let them see in the trunk. A catalytic convertor that appeared to be recently cut was located in the trunk. Since Deputies were unable to prove the catalytic convertor as stolen, the driver was released from the scene with the catalytic convertor."

Replacing a catalytic converter can be between $1,000-$3,000. The following auto repair shops will mark your catalytic converter for free with any paid service:
